3 TOP BENEFITS OF WHEATGRASS

Top 3 Benefits of WheatgrassWheatgrass is a super potent health food that has the potential to rapidly elevate your health, skin and figure. I personally think it is the ultimate “all in one” natural dietary supplement to attain your 2022 health goals with so many benefits on varying levels.

Wheatgrass came on the scene in the early 1900s and is increasing in popularity as we all recognize the connection of our “gut health” to our “overall health”. One tiny 2oz shot of wheatgrass is loaded with vitamins, amino acid, liver enzymes, and chlorophyll. It has more vitamin A and C than carrots or oranges and is very rich with vitamin E, B and K. Here are the top three benefits of wheatgrass juice:

1. CREATES FLAWLESS, GLOWING SKIN

I bet I have your attention now. Yes… incorporating wheatgrass juice into your diet is very helpful to improving your skin. Why you may ask? Well, wheat grass contains both vitamins and natural phytochemicals such as flavonoids. These flavonoids are antioxidant rich. We know antioxidants help to slow down the aging process as they help reduce free radicals in our body that lead to aging due to oxidative stress.

In addition to anti-aging benefits, the chlorophyll in wheatgrass has antibacterial properties. These properties help in the prevention of pimples and can help in the treatment of acne, eczema and psoriasis.

A bonus benefit is wheatgrass is it protects your skin from the sun. UVA and UVB rays are known to be the biggest contributor to aging. The sun feels good, but boy does it increase sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Wheat grass is high in vitamin E and adds photoprotective benefits to your skin. It is thought to even help in the prevention and reversal of sun damage.

2. HELPS WITH WEIGHT LOSS

So many of us experienced weight gain with pandemic restrictions and seeking new ways to shed those pounds. A great first step to weight loss is removing harmful toxins from our body. A regular morning routine of drinking wheatgrass juice is like a spring cleaning for your colon and digestive track. Nice to know as colon cancer is a top type of cancer.

With it’s potent nutritional value, one shot of wheatgrass helps to check food cravings for sugary treats and keeps you from feeling hungry. Specifically, wheat grass contains thylakoids. Thylakoids are found in other leafy greens such as spinach, kale and lettuce, but wheatgrass is the most potent.

Wheatgrass increases our energy levels too by improving our immune system. WhenWhen our body isn’t tackling so many issues, we feel more energized. More energy is beneficial in burning more calories as we are more likely to incorporate more fitness into our daily routine.

3. IMPROVE & PROTECT OUR HEALTH

Antioxidants are what we are looking for to protect ourselves against health conditions like arthritis, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Wheatgrass is loaded with antioxidants such as Vitamin C, vitamin E, and glutathione. Antioxidants fight free radicals in the body reducing oxidative stress and that protects your body from illness.

Wheat grass is also high in iron, calcium, magnesium, and amino acids.
Interesting to know of the 17 amino acids that wheatgrass contains, eight are considered essential – meaning your body cannot produce them and you must obtain them from a food source.

Some studies show that wheatgrass may reduce cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy substance found throughout the body and when you have too much in your blood it can block blood flow and increase your risk of heart disease. There is some evidence that wheatgrass works as well in lowering cholesterol as the prescription drug atorvastatin that is used to treat high blood cholesterol.

As already mentioned, wheatgrass is rich in chlorophyll, a plant pigment with powerful anti-inflammatory properties and this is known to reduce inflammation in our cells. Inflammation is our immune system’s response to protect our body against injury and infection, but inflammation has a negative impact on our health as it is believed to contribute to conditions like cancer, heart disease and autoimmune disorders.

Wheat grass enhances our immune system too and it helps to ward off infection and disease. A strong immune system accelerates our recovery time as well.

The detox effects of wheatgrass cleans our intestines and therefore we may experience less bloating, gas and abdominal discomfort. Some research has also found that it may relieve constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive issues.

There’s even more… Some animal studies have found that wheatgrass may help keep blood sugars under control. In an experiment certain enzymes that help lower blood sugar levels were increased by giving wheatgrass to diabetic rats. Their monthly blood sugar levels also significantly decreased.

The bottom line is that wheat grass and its components have been associated with many health benefits including weight loss, decreased inflammation, lower cholesterol and better blood sugar control. In my opinion, it’s hard to argue that it’s not a potent superfood.

Want to learn more on how to incorporate wheatgrass into your daily routine… read more below.

Here’s how to get your daily dose of wheatgrass.

Wheat grass can be purchased in the form of a capsule or as a powder, but the ultimate is having it fresh as the enzymes are most effective when consumed after freshly squeezing it.

How to grow it:

You can grow your own beautiful trees of wheat grass in just nine days. You can order a starter bag on Amazon. If you’re growing it for more than one person you may want to consider ordering from a seed supplier.
I purchased a 20 kilogram bag from West Coast seeds as I juice daily for my husband and I.

How to Juice it via manual or electric machine:

There are cold press juicers for under $100 that can be used to juice wheatgrass. Another option is to purchase an electric juicer. The two most popular juicers are the Omega and The Olympic.

After researching and comparing these two popular options, I decided to go with the Omega N-9. The Omega produced more juice volume and this felt like “better bang for the buck”. There are plenty of YouTube videos where they compare the two machines if you want to see the volume difference for yourself.

I chose the Omega because I like to juice other vegetables as well. Celery juice also has an impressive benefits list so I combine it with my wheat grass when I’m low on my wheatgrass crop.

How to juice fresh wheatgrass an electric juicer:

Using scissors, cut approximately 3 cups of grass. Insert cut grass into machine and juice. This produces about 2oz which is all you need per person.

It’s recommended to drink it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. For the first week though while you’re introducing it I would suggest combining it with celery juice to tell your body to adjust to this potent superfood.

Probiotics
60 minerals found in clay

Hope this has inspired you to get juicing yourself. Keep in mind though, you can seek out fresh wheatgrass at juice bars. I just like the convenience of making it myself, it’s more economical and I know I’m getting the freshest of fresh wheatgrass to increase all the health benefits associated with it.

On that note, I do want to share that I have personally noted a major increase in my energy levels and have been receiving even more compliments on my glowing skin.

Cheers to health and happiness and of course glowing skin!
